Please tell me about therapy with you.
How much is this going to cost me?
I offer reasonably priced therapy, which enables me to see patients on an ongoing basis without placing undo financial burdens upon them. I have found that my patients are more comfortable knowing that they can afford a more leisurely and traditional period of therapy. I suggest that the people who come to see me plan on seeing me ten times which works out to a total fee of £300.
What will happen in the first session?
In our first session you will be able to tell me about the motivating issues that are causing you pain and have prompted you to seek help. I work from the Human Givens Perspective, which means that I have a variety of both traditional and modern psychological treatment modalities to draw upon in working with my patients all of whom are individuals.
How long will it take before I begin to feel better?
Hopefully you will begin to feel a bit better after our first session as just knowing that you are doing something about your problem is known to be helpful.
What happens after our first session?
Most people come to see me because they have a motivating issue that is having a major impact on their lives. So it only makes sense that we start by working on that motivating issue and aim for symptom relief.
What do you mean by symptom relief?
The first thing that we want to do is reduce your pain. If a person is suffering from a known traumatic incident then we will work to relieve the distress this incident is causing in their lives. If a person is suffering from panic attacks then we will take steps to diminish the frequency and severity of the attacks. If a person is suffering with depression we will agree a behavioural strategy to begin to lift the person out of their depression.
What happens after symptom relief?
If you were walking down the street in London on a winter’s day and slipped on some ice and broke your arm you would be in great pain. You would be taken to the hospital where a doctor would set your arm placing it in a plaster cast and perhaps giving you some tablets for the pain. You would have achieved symptom relief but under the cast the arm would still be broken and would take some time to heal. When you have achieved a certain degree of symptom relief in your therapy and your acute pain has diminished we can begin to work on other things.
What other things can we work on?
You didn’t arrive at being who you are overnight. Once we have been able to achieve some control over your motivating issues we can then begin to deal with the issues that lie behind them. Some of the most common things people want to talk about are:
Relationship Problems
Family Problems
Childhood Issues
Employment Problems
Addictions
Will you give me any tools to help me deal with problems in the future?
When you have completed your course of therapy you will have learned a new way of dealing with life’s problems. During your therapy you should set aside 30 minutes a day to practice these well-researched and proven stress reduction techniques. You will be provided with a CD to help you with your home practice.
